Barry fails to step up for Everton as Beto struggles
Thierno Barry almost added to Everton’s lead after Ndiaye’s shot. But he missed from three yards out in the 28th minute, which proved vital.
Coach David Moyes mixed things up by starting Barry, a £27-million signing from Villarreal, over Beto.
The Toffees started two strikers, but neither Barry nor Beto scored.
After Xhaka’s shot, Everton had no real chances except for a late attempt by Vitalii Mykolenko that went wide.
Moyes, the ex-Black Cats boss, hopes to revive the Toffees. They have only one win in their past eight matches.
