SEA Games 33 concluded with host Thailand dominated the final medal table with a record 499 medals in total.

Southeast Asia’s biggest sporting spectacle returned to its roots in style as the 33rd SEA Games concluded in Thailand, delivering ten days of intense competition, historic milestones and a reshaped medal table.

The 33rd Southeast Asian Games are officially underway in Thailand, with Bangkok and Chonburi hosting thousands of athletes in a celebration of regional sporting excellence. From 9–20 December 2025, competitors from across Southeast Asia are chasing continental glory across 50 medal sports, ranging from Olympic disciplines to beloved traditional events.

SEA Games 33 concluded

From 9 to 20 December 2025, athletes from across the region gathered in Bangkok and Chonburi, the very cities where the SEA Games were first staged back in 1959. This latest edition underlined just how far the event has evolved, with 13,657 athletes competing across 50 medal sports, spanning Olympic disciplines and traditional Southeast Asian events.

Ten nations took part in the Games: hosts Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Brunei Darussalam and Timor-Leste. Cambodia withdrew from the competition on 10 December, citing safety concerns.

SEA Games medal final update – Thailand dominate on home soil.

Backed by home support, Thailand produced a commanding performance to top the medal standings. The hosts collected a record 233 gold medals, finishing with an overall haul of 499 medals, comfortably clear of their regional rivals.

Indonesia finished second, continuing its strong multi-sport tradition with 91 gold medals and 333 medals overall. In comparison, Vietnam claimed third place with 87 gold medals and 278 medals overall, reaffirming its status as one of Southeast Asia’s most consistent sporting nations.
