POCHETTINO SLAMS CHELSEA PLAYERS FOR PENALTY KICK ISSUE
Pochettino slammed players Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke for disputing the penalty kick in their last match.
The Chelsea boss described his two players as “not experienced” and “young” after his side’s 6-0 win over Everton on Monday.
“We all agree they (Jackson and Madueke) were wrong. They are not experienced players. They are young,” Pochettino said.
“We can’t show this type of behavior. There will be no punishment but this can’t happen again,” he added.
CHELSEA BOSS REMINDS PLAYERS PALMER IS ‘PENALTY TAKER’
Pochettino then reminded his players that Palmer, one of his star players, is the “penalty taker” for Chelsea.
It took captain Conor Gallagher to intervene and shove Jackson and Madueke before handing the ball to Palmer.
“It was a very good the reaction by Conor Gallagher (to diffuse things),” the 52-year-old manager said.
“The players and staff know that Cole Palmer is the penalty taker. I am so, so upset about the situation,” he added.
POCHETTINO PLEASED WITH PALMER, TEAM’S WIN OVER EVERTON
Pochettino, meanwhile, praised Palmer, who slotted home the penalty after the minor incident to make it 5-0.
The shot moved Palmer alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland atop the Premier League scoring charts with 20.
“He (Palmer) was a player always with the capacity to score when at Manchester City, but I think the way he has adapted himself is fantastic,” the Chelsea boss said.
“He is amazing for the team, for him, and he is showing that the club made the right decision in signing him.”
“Overall, I am happy with the performance. We improved in different areas, and today was the perfect game,” he added.
Chelse is currently in ninth place with 47 points.
