Alcaraz beat 19-year-old Shang Juncheng from the host nation, 6-2, 6-2.

It was the Spanish world No.3’s 10th consecutive win, and he advanced to a third-round matchup against another Chinese player, Wu Yibing.

Moreover, Zverev opened his campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Italian qualifier Mattia Belucci.

Furthermore, former world No.1 Novak Djokovic was tested early.

The world No.4 later completed a 7-6(3), 7-6(9) victory over American Alex Michelsen.

However, world No.6 Andrey Rublev wasn’t lucky in Shanghai.

Rublev was broken by Jakub Mensik seven times.

This allowed the world No.65 Czech Republic player to complete a 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-3 upset win.

World No.35 Brandon Nakashima also fell, 7-6(4), 6-3, to Yosuke Watanuki.

FRITZ, DIMITROV FINALLY EMERGE VICTORIOUS AFTER RAIN-DELAYED MATCHES

Furthermore, Fritz and world No.10 Grigor Dimitrov finally emerged victorious after completing their rain-delayed second-round matches.

Fritz saw off world No.161 Frenchman Terence Atmane, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), after the match started on Saturday at the Qizong Forest Sports City Arena.

Fritz will next face Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki in the third round.

Dimitrov was down a break in the second set against Zizou Bergs when play was suspended due to rain.

But the Bulgarian broke Bergs three times when play resumed on Monday to clinch a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win.

Dimitrov will next take on Australian Alexei Popyrin in the next round.
