Messi says Inter Miami will “come back stronger”
The Herons fell 3-2 to Atlanta United FC in the final match of the Round 1 best-of-three series.
Goals from Jamal Thiare and Bartosz Slisz capped off Inter Miami’s historical run.
The Argentine forward registered a goal and assist in the best-of-three game series.
“A season ended in which we continued to grow as a club and, although we achieved some goals, we wanted more,” Messi said on Instagram.
“Thanks to all the people who joined and supported us. Now let’s get ready to come back stronger next year.”
What’s next for Messi, Inter Miami?
Messi concluded the regular season with 20 goals and 16 assists in just 19 games.
The 37-year-old led Inter Miami clinch the 2024 Supporters’ Shield and set the league record for most points recorded in a single campaign.
Messi, whose contract expires after the 2025 campaign, is expected to return next season.
“I actually don’t know how limited [Messi’s time in this league] is,” Martino said following the team’s elimination.
“There is a question of time passing, but I would not dare to say that it is so short.”
Aside from MLS, Inter Miami will also prepare for the Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup and Club World Cup.
FIFA awarded Inter Miami with the final Concacaf slot to the tournament after winning the Supporters’ Shield.
The United States will host the Club World Cup.
