ICC, PCB AGREE ‘IN PRINCIPLE’ TO ADOPT HYBRID MODEL FOR GLOBAL TOURNAMENTS UNTIL 2027
The ICC and the PCB agreed “in principle” to adopt a hybrid model for global cricket tournaments staged either in Pakistan or India until 2027.
Furthermore, the arrangement will start at Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
This will then be applied in tournaments to be staged in India.
Moreover, Pakistan and India will play its game in these tournaments at a neutral venue.
Multiple reports, including ESPNCricinfo, cited various sources regarding this development.
However, the PCB insisted that discussions remain ongoing as it has not commented publicly on the news.
UNCERTAINTY WHETHER HYBRID MODEL WILL APPLY TO MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TOURNAMENTS
Moreover, there’s still uncertainty as whether the hybrid model approach will apply to both men’s and women’s tournaments.
Furthermore, the women’s ODI Women Cup will be hosted by India in late 2025.
The men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
New ICC (International Cricket Council) president Jay Shah and PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) chairman Mohsin Naqvi met at the former’s headquarters on Thursday.
“It’s been agreed in principle by all parties that the 2025 Champions Trophy will be held in the UAE and Pakistan with India playing its matches in Dubai,” an ICC source was quoted by Press Trust of India as saying.
“It’s a win-win solution for all stakeholders,” the source added.
‘COMPENSATION DEMANDED BY PCB’ FOR LOST REVENUE IN HYBRID MODEL ALSO DISCUSSED: SOURCE
Furthermore, compensation will be demanded by the PCB, the source said, for lost revenue in a hybrid model were also discussed.
Moreover, an India appearance in the final against Pakistan in Champions Trophy will have to be held in Dubai.
“During the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play its matches in Sri Lanka,” the source said.
“The compensation demanded by PCB for the Champions Trophy hybrid model is still under consideration,” the source added.
Organizers hope to release the much-anticipated Champions Trophy 2025 schedule as awaited by the fans and its broadcaster Star Sports.
