INDIA VS ENGLAND T20I SERIES SET; KOLKATA TO HOST FIRST MATCH
The India vs England T20I series is set, with Kolkata to host the first match on Wednesday.
Furthermore, India tapped Axar Patel as its newly appointed vice-captain ahead of their five-match series.
Moreover, the remaining venues for the T20I (Twenty20 International) series are in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai.
Patel assured that all India batters will come in to have flexible roles in the series.
“Batting-wise, it’s not just with me, but we spoke in 2023-24 itself that the openers are fixed, but everyone from Nos.3 to 7 have been told that they can come into bat anytime,” the vice-captain said.
“Our middle order will come to bat depending on the match situation,” he added.
PATEL AWARE INDIA HAS NOT MUCH T20I MATCHES LINED UP; ODI CRICKET ALSO IN PLAY
Patel is aware that India has not much T20I matches lined up.
Moreover, the team is also focused in ODI (One-Day International) play.
Furthermore, India is gearing for its title defense in th T20 World Cup, which it will be co-hosting along with Sri Lanka in February-March 2026.
“The World Cup is coming up in a year so how we approach leading up to that, we want to try it from now itself. That’s the main target,” the vice-captain said.
“Momentum is a big thing because if you start well, you can carry it,” he added.

Furthermore, England’s white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum takes pride in the team’s batting as “powerful as anyone’s in the world.”
Moreover, McCullum is more focused at getting the most out of his players than going for an outright win.
“It’s about trying to get the best out of the talent that sits within the dressing room, trying to get the guys as best as we can,” the vice-captain said.
“We’ve got a batting lineup which is as powerful as any batting lineup in the world,” he added.
England is on a transition phase after it lost both 50- and 20-over World Cup titles in seven months in 2023-24.
