ABU DHABI ORGANIZERS SAY SORRY FOR IDENTIFYING RUSSIAN KASATKINA WITH SPAIN
Abu Dhabi organizers say sorry after it identified Kasatkina as representing Spain during a draw for its tennis tournament.
Furthermore, the Abu Dhabi Open draw mistakenly identified the Russian No.1 women’s singles plyer as playing for Spain.
Moreover, organizers of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open issued a statement on social media to address the issue.
“We sincerely apologize for the error made by one of our suppliers during the live draw, whereby an incorrect nationality was shown alongside the name of Daria Kasatkina,” the organizers said.
“This was entirely an administrative mistake and has now been corrected,” they added.
KASATKINA MANAGEMENT DENIES SPECULATION RUSSIAN SWITCHING TO SPAIN
Kasatkina’s management team denied speculation that the Russian will change allegiance to Spain.
Moreover, rumors swirled as Kasatkina lives in Dubai but trains in Barcelona.
Furthermore, the Russian had been improving her game in the Spanish city for several years.
“It is incorrect and we can categorically deny she is switching to Spain,” Kasatkina’s management told BBC Sport.
It added that the Abu Dhabi organizers’ mistake is “potentially quite harmful” to her.

Furthermore, Kasatkina’s recent stand on Russia invading Ukraine also added to the speculations.
Moreover, the 27-year-old world No.10 ha publicly opposed Moscow on the unprovoked invasion.
She also slammed Russia’s treatment of gay citizens and the idea that one who chose to be gay as “ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, Kasatkina’s management team insisted that the player doesn’t intend to represent Spain nor she is switching nationality.
“This carries some strong implications for Daria if the Russian authorities feel she is trying to switch – which she is not,” it said.
