Glenn Phillips had an impressive 50 through 61 off 39 balls near the end to steer New Zealand in crossing the 300-run mark.

Moreover, starting off-break Babar Azam scored 64 runs even if it came off 90 balls for the Black Caps.

Furthermore, William O’Rourke and Mitchell Santner bowled with three wickets each for the visitors.

In contrast, New Zealand forced Pakistan to fold up with just 260 in 47.2 overs to the disappointment of the home crowd.

The hosts thus failed to reach the necessary 321 runs to snatch the victory.

FANS ROAST HOSTS, BABAR AFTER STINGING LOSS

Fans roasted the hosts and Babar shortly after the stinging loss.

Furthermore, most netizens went to X (formerly Twitter) to describe Babar as a “selfish knock.”

Moreover, Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha scored 69 and 42, respectively, but their efforts were not enough.

It was a dampener for fans who are watching Pakistan world class tournament for the first time since the 1996 World Cup.

“Pakistan begged for a home ICC (International Cricket Council) event and now lost the opening game of that tournament,” a netizen said.
