RADUCANU CONCERN LEADS DUBAI ORGANIZERS TO EJECT FAN; WTA IMPOSES BAN
A Raducanu concern led to organizers of the Dubai Championships to eject a man who watched her second round match on Monday.
Furthermore, the 22-year-old British women’s singles world No56 was in tears to take an unscheduled break in her match against No14 seed Karolina Muchova.
Moreover, Raducanu informed an umpire to ask permission to take a break at at the back of the official’s chair and barrier.
Security later escorted the man away from the court.
This, after Raducanu complained that he “exhibited fixated behavior.”
She later returned to finish the match as she lost, 7-6(6), 6-4, to Muchova.
The WTA then ruled that the man will be banned from all of its events pending a threat assessment.
‘DIFFICULT EXPERIENCE’ BUT ‘PROUD OF HOW I CAME BACK,’ SAYS CANADIAN-BORN PLAYER
The Canadian-born player addressed the incident on social media amid the WTA’s decision.
Moreover, the former world No.10 thanked her fans and the crowded who watched her match.
Furthermore, Raducanu also lauded Muchova, who consoled her after she sought a break.
“Difficult experience yesterday (Tuesday) but I’ll be okay and proud of how I came back and competed,” the British player said.
“Thank you to Karolina (Muchova) for being a great sport and best of luck to her for the rest of the tournament,” she added.
WTA VOWS TO ENSURE SAFETY OF RADUCANU, OTHER PLAYERS AFTER INCIDENT
The WTA vows to ensure the safety of Raducanu and all the players after the incident.
Furthermore, Raducanu and her team were urged by the WTA to coordinate with them.
Moreover, the move was made “to ensure her well-being and provide any necessary support.”
Dubai organizers are also committed to work with WTA directly to ensure security around the playing areas.
“We support the WTA’s decision to ban the individual in question from all WTA events,” organizers said.
They also “share the tour’s longstanding commitment to player welfare, safety and wellbeing.
