The Indian Wells openers on Thursday saw Emma Raducanu lose his first match since her Dubai incident, while Joao Fonseca advanced.

INDIAN WELLS OPENERS SAW RADUCANU FALLING TO UCHIJIMA

The Indian Wells openers saw Raducanu lose to Moyuka Uchijima, 6-3, 6-2.

Furthermore, it was the British 22-year-old’s first match since an incident in Dubai with a stalker, who has since been banned from all WTA events.

Moreover, Raducanu talked about the joy of playing again, saying it was “nice” to return to Indian Wells again.

“I love Indian Wells, so I was enjoying, like, the preparation that I had here for the last week,” the Canadian-born player said.

“Yeah, I mean, I had great support around me. I was feeling pretty good. I think today was just a bit of a curveball,” she added.

“It’s a pleasure being here on center court at Indian Wells. It’s a dream,” the teenager said.

“People call it the fifth Grand Slam, and I can understand why. It’s literally a paradise,” he added.

Furthermore, Fonseca hopes to sustain the momentum of his breakthrough ATP victory at Buenos Aies by making a splash at Indian Wells.

“Today was pretty difficult, very windy, and I got through so I’m very happy,” Fonseca said.

“Everywhere I go there are some Brazilians watching and cheering for me,” he added.
