DRAPER SAYS SINNER, ALCARAZ STILL A ‘LONG WAY AHEAD OF ME’ DESPITE INDIAN WELLS’ WIN
Draper says Sinner and Alcaraz are still a “long way ahead of me” despite his amazing run at the BNP Paribas Open last week.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old British world No.7 cited the four majors of Sinner and three from Alcaraz as barometers for his success.
Moreover, Draper acknowledged he “still have got to improve a lot” in his game if he wants to reach the level of two of the world’s top three men’s singles players.
“I mean, I would like to think that I still have got to improve a lot. Especially those boys like Alcaraz and (Hanik) Suinner, they are a long way ahead of me in all honestly,” Draper told Tennis Channel.
“Four Slams and three Slams. That is the benchmark I am going after,” he added.
BRIT STRIVES FOR MORE TITLES, FIRST MAJOR
Draper described his impressive run at Indian Wells as having a “great week” but he vows to seek more titles.
Moreover, the Briton is playing at the Miami Open this week, as he seeks a “Sunshine Double” and further improve his ranking.
Furthermore, he is aware he crosses paths again with Alcaraz in Miami after he beat the Spanish world No.3 in the semifinals in Indian Wells.
“This is a great week and I have been more and more consistent with my results but I still have a long way to go,” Draper said.
“That’s the goal to reach these guys and compete for the big titles week in, week out but I am not getting too far ahead of myself,” he added.
RUNE REMATCH AWAITS DRAPER IN MIAMI
Aside from Alcaraz, Draper could also potentially meet Denmark’s Holger Rune at some point in Miami.
Furthermore, the Briton hopes to be on the winning end of that match after Draper defeated the Dane in the Indian Wells’ final.
Moreover, Draper could possibly clash in the round of 16 in Miami if they take of business in the early rounds.
Incidentally, the Indian Wells’ got a first-round bye in Miami.
The upcoming ATOP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami began its women’s singles event on Tuesday, while the men are set on Wednesday.
