KARIM JANAT BECOMES 10TH AFGHAN PLAYER IN IPL AFTER GT DEBUT VS RAJASTHAN ROYALS

Karam Janat becomes the 10th player from Afghanistan to reach the IPL after he made his debut for GT against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old bowling all-rounder was signed up by GT for Rs 75 lakhs after the IPL 20225 auctions.

Moreover, Janat also became the fourth Afghan player to play for the Titans in the IPL after Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Azmatullah Omarzai.

Additionally, Riyan Parag won the toss for RR against GT in their matchup at the Sawal Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

“We’ll bowl first. The surface looks dry, but it’s a ground where chasing is easier. We’ve got a balanced side and made two strategic changes today (Monday),” Pirag said.

FROM 2016 INTERNATIONAL DEBUT TO IPL STINT

From his 2016 international debut to his IPL stint, Janat has come a long way.

Moreover, the bowler played or Afghanistan in two Tests, three ODIs (One-Day Internationals), and 67 T20Is (Twenty20 Internationals) since his made his international debut in December 2016.

Furthermore, Janat played in 160 T20s and scored 2,494 runs at an average of 22.67 highlighted by two centuries and nine fifties.

He also took 118 wickets with an economy rate of 7.82.

“We are nine brothers, and Asghar went to cricket, seeing his elder brother,” Janat said, referring to his brother, a former Afghanistan team captain.

“I also liked to play tennis ball cricket, but I used to study a lot,” he added.

2016 U19 WORLD CUP STINT LED TO MORE OPPORTUNITIES

A stint for Afghanistan in th 2016 U19 (Under-19) World Cup let to more opportunities for Janat.

Furthermore, the bowler scored 273 runs to make a name for himself in that tournament.

Moreover, Janat has since reached speeds of 140 clicks as continued to hone his skills that led to his eventual IPL stint.

“Later I went to Kabul Cricket Academy and the love for the game started from there,” Janat said.

“Seven of my nine brothers played cricket while Asghar and I represented the national team,” he added.
