KOHLI, SHARMA RETIREMENTS TO ‘CREATE LEADERSHIP VACUUM’ AS INDIA TOURS ENGLAND
Expect Kohli and Sharma retirements, Ashwin said, “to create a leadership vacuum” as India is scheduled for a Test series in England.
Furthermore, Aswin admitted the departures of the two Indian cricket stars “will be a testing time for Indian cricket.”
Moreover, the 38-year-old bowling all-rounder noted that India will miss Kohli’s “energy” and Sharma’s “composure” the most.
“This will a testing time for Indian cricket, and I’ll say this is truly now the beginning of the (India coach) Gautam Gambhir era,” Ashwin said.
“Their retirements will definitely create a leadership vacuum. You can’t buy experience, especially on tours like this. Virat’s energy and Rohit’s composure will be missed,” he added.

ASHWIN BELIEVES BUMRAH ‘DESERVES THE CAPTAINCY’ FOR TEAM INDIA
Ashwin believes that Jasprit Bumrah “deserves the captaincy” for Team India with Kohli and Sharma departing.
Moreover, he acknowledges that Bumrah is “probably be the senior-most player” in the team.
Furthermore, Ashwin admitted that he will leave it to selectors to choose between Bumrah and Shubman Gill, another frontrunner for the position.
“The team that will tour England will be a completely new team, a transformed team where Bumrah will probably be the senior-most player,” Ashwin said,
“He is obviously one of the captaincy options; I think he deserves the captaincy, but the selectors will take a decision based on his physical capacity,” he added.
ASHWIN THOUGHT KOHLI, SHARMA STILL HAS MUCH TO OFFER
Ashwin thought both Kohli and Sharma still have a lot to offer for Team India despite their ages.
Furthermore, the bowling all-rounder was convinced Kohli still “had one-two years of Test cricket let in him.”
Moreover, he noted that Sharma “could still go on after the England Test series.”
“There will be a sense of fulfilment, but I honestly feely Kohli definitely had one-two years of Test cricket left in him,” Ashwin said.
“Rohit, I felt would at least go on till the England Test series, because there’s a leadership vacuum in the team,” he added.
