Vinicius Junior sustains ankle injury
Carlo Ancelotti substituted Vinicius during their 4-3 Clasico defeat to Barcelona on Sunday.
The result leaves Madrid seven points behind league leaders Barca, with three games remaining.
“Following tests carried out today on VinÃcius Jr. by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left ankle,” the club said in a statement on Monday.
“His recovery will be monitored.”
Meanwhile, right-back Lucas Vazquez was diagnosed “with an injury to the pectineus muscle in his left thigh.”
Real Madrid’s woes continue
The Clasico defeat means that Barca may take home the LaLiga title if Madrid fails to beat Mallorca or if Barca defeats Espanyol on Thursday.
Los Blancos will finish the domestic season without winning a major trophy.
On the other hand, Ancelotti confirmed his exit at Bernabeu.
The Italian will take over as Brazil head coach on May 26.
However, Madrid has yet to officially announce Ancelotti’s exit from the club.
