ICC MULLS NON-GROUPING OF INDIA, PAKISTAN AT FUTURE COMPETITIONS

The ICC mulls, the BCCI source said, the non-grouping of India and Pakistan at future competitions.

Furthermore, the ICC is expected to tackle the issue at its annual conference in Singapore from July 17-20.

Moreover, the BCCI source, as quoted by Press Trust of India, the non-grouping at ICC events could be a viable option than not seeing the two teams play against each other.

“The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference,” the BCCI source said.

“While prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm at ICC events, is a possibility,” the source added.

RECENT MILITARY CONFLICT CONFLICTS INDIA-PAKISTAN MATCHUPS

The recent military conflicts that involve India and Pakistan has provided a major conflict to the two teams playing each other in cricket events in the long term.

Moreover, next year’s T20 World Cup will be a major gauge as to how the ICC will handle a sensitive situation.

Furthermore, the wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 complicates matters, with the BCCI committed to follow the instructions of the Indian government about the situation.

The BCCI is aware that India still holds a major clout in world cricket especially since the ICC is headed by an Indian in Jay Shah.

Incidentally, Shah is expected to attend the Singapore conference for the first time in his capacity as ICC chair.

India coach Gautam Gambhir earlier called for a boycott of India-Pakistan matches amid the recent terror attacks but admitted he is leaving it to the BCCI to decide if the two teams play each other at the upcoming Asia Cup. ICC mulls non-grouping of India, Pakistan in events: BCCI source

HYBRID MODEL COULD COMPLEMENT NON-GROUPING TO MAKE INDIA VS PAKISTAN MATCHES WORK

The implementation of a hybrid model in competitions involving India and Pakistan was earlier worked out among the ICC, BCCI, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Furthermore, the hybrid model allows India-Pakistan matched to be played at neutral venues regardless which between the two nations hosts the tournament.

Moreover, the ICC is aware that cancelling all India vs Pakistan matches in competitions will result in loss of revenues for organizers.

The BCCI source’s statement came after India coach Gautam Gambhir earlier called for India to boycott all its matches against Pakistan in light of the recent attacks.

However, the coach admitted that he is leaving it to the BCCI to decide if a possible India vs Pakistan matchup can still take place at the upcoming Asia Cup.
