ALCARAZ DROPS RUBLEV AFTER BOUNCING BACK FROM LOSS TO RUUD
Alcaraz drops Rublev, 6-3, 7-6(8), to bounce back after losing to Caspeer Ruud in his opening match.
Furthermore, the Spanish world No.2 is still contention for a place in the semifinals of the season-ending tournament.
Moreover, Alcaraz admitted being “uncomfortable in the stomach” after his loss to Ruud on Monday.
However, the Spaniard had none of those feelings against Rublev.
“I just tried to be focused on my game, on what I have to do, and forget that I’m not feeling well,” Alcaraz said.
“It is something that I’m going to wear (pink nose strip) more often. I could recover better between points,” he added.
ZVEREV TOPS RUUD TO STILL LEAD GROUP
Zverev topped Ruud, 7-6(3), 6-3, to lead his group with two victories in as many matches.
Moreover, the 27-year-old German took advantage of the match’s only break point to finish off his Norwegian opponent.
Furthermore, Zverev is already looking forward to his next matchup against Alcaraz.
He described the Spaniard as someone who’s playing “his best tennis.”
“We’ve played some very tough battles this year at a Grand Slam events, in the Australia and French Opens, so I’m expecting a tough match,” the German said.
“I’m expecting him (Alcaraz) to play his best tennis yet here. So we’ll see how it goes. I’m looking forward to it,” he added.
‘JANNIK AND CARLOS’ ARE BENCHMARKS ‘I WANT TO BE PART’ OF, SAYS ZVEREV
Furthermore, Zverev described Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz as “two benchmarks” that he “wants to be a part of.”
Moreover, the German acknowledged the game’s current top two players as “the ones winning Grand Slams.”
“I want to develop my game further so I can compete with Jannik (Sinner) and Carlos (Alcaraz). They’re the two benchmarks right now,” Zverev said.
“They’re the ones that are winning Grand Slams. I want to be part of that group,” he added.
The German is headed to that direction so far, as he’s holding a seven-game winning streak after his title run at the Paris Masters.
