ALCARAZ SET TO WITHDRAW FROM MADRID OPEN AMID LINGERING INJURY: REPORTS

Alcaraz is set to withdraw from the Madrid Open amid lingering injury concerns, multiple reports have said.

Furthermore, the 21-year-old Spanish world No.3 was awaiting tests after he sustained an adductor injury at the Barcelona Open final last week.

Moreover, Alcaraz was scheduled to hold a press conference at the Caja Magica at 12:30pm local time Thursday to formalize his withdrawal.

Pedro Fullana of Cadena SER was quoted as saying in a Tennis.com report saying that he never resumed his training the past few days.

“He didn’t train yesterday, he didn’t train today, and we can confirm that he will not be training tomorrow either,” Fullana said.

Alcaraz vowed to “listen to my body” as he went the rounds to promote his Netflix docuseries “Carlos Alcaraz: My Way.”

Moreover, the Spaniard had a nine-match winning streak en route to winning the Monte Carlo Masters.

Furthermore, he sustained the run in Barcelona until the final, where he lost to Danish star Holger Rune where he sustained the injury.

“For me, Madrid is one of the places where I enjoy playing the most,” Alcaraz said on Monday.

“My participation in Madrid is in doubt, I’m a little bit tired physically. But I have to listen to my body and see how the tests go,” he added.

RADUCANU TAKES OUT LAMENS TO OPEN MADRID CAMPAIGN ON WINNING NOTE

Meanwhile, women’s singles action saw Emma Raducanu holding off Suzan Lamens, 7-6(4), 6-4, to open her Madrid campaign on a high note.

Furthermore, the 22-year-old British world No.47 kept Lamens at bay in her first action after the Miami Open.

Moreover, Raducanu hopes to make a deeper run in her first claycourt event after her last eight stint in South Florida.

“It’s for sure different stepping into the competition, especially on clay. I haven’t played many matches on this surface, so it does feel a little foreign to me,” the Briton said.

“I played an opponent (Lamens) in great form who has won a lot of matches on clay so I knew I had to play really well to win,” she added.
