ANDREEVA IN ROUND-OF-16 AFTER LATEST WIN, SETS INDIAN WELLS’ RECORD
Andreeva is in the round-of-16 after her latest win, as she set an Indian Wells’ record regarding the youngest player to reach this far.
Furthermore, the 17-year-old Russian world No.11 continued her impressive play this year after moving a step closer to a quarterfinals’ berth.
Moreover, Andreeva defeated Tauson, the same player she beat in the final to claim her first WTA title at the Dubai Tennis Championships last month.
The win enabled the teenager to became the youngest player to reach the last 16 at Indian Wells since Amanda Anisimova in 2018, as per OptaAce.
Andreeva started with a first-round bye before beating Varvara Gracheva, 7-5, 6-4, in the secon round.
RUSSIAN TEEN ALSO SETS WTA SEASONAL 1000 MATCHES’ RECORD
Andreeva sets a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) seasonal 1000 matches’ record after Monday’s victory.
Moreover, the Russian became the youngest player, OptaAce said, to win nine of her first 10 seasonal matches in WTA 1000 events.
Furthermore, Andreeva will next face britain’s Elena Rybakina for a place in the last eight.
Should the teenager hurdle Rybakina, she will likely cross paths with world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.
The Belarussian top seed beat Andreeva at Brisbane and the Australian Open in January but the Russian beat her Roland Garros last year.
DRAPER RENEWS CONFIDENCE IN INDIAN WELLS AFTER WIN OVER BROOKSBY
Jack Draper renewed his confidence in Indian Wells after he pulled off s 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jenson Brooksby.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old British No.14 is determined to go on a deep run in the California desert and close in on a place in the top 10 in the ATP rankings.
Moreover, Draper cited his renewed confidence after a not-so-impressive stint at the Australian Open.
“In Australia, I wasn’t ready to play there at all. Coming through those really long matches was something I needed for my confidence,” the Brit said.
“To win back to back to back 5 set matches, not many people have done that. That gives me confidence in my mind and body,” he added.
