SLOT EYED AS LIVERPOOL MANAGER TO REPLACE KLOPP
Slot was identified by Liverpool as a possible top prospect as the new Liverpool manager to replace Klopp, sources told ESPN.
Liverpool’s interest in the 45-year-old manager increased after the club cooled off in pursuing Sporting CP Ruben Amorim.
Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, aside from Slot and Amorim, was also floated as another top candidate to succeed Klopp, sources said.
Klopp in January announced his decision to step down as Liverpool’s manager at the end of this season.
The 56-year-old informed Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group of his decision last November.
SLOT ALSO GETS INTEREST FROM BARCELONA, BAYERN MUNICH
However, Liverpool is aware of other clubs interested in landing Slot.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also eying the Dutch manager, prompting Liverpool to continue to assess other possible candidates.
Slot signed a new three-year contract with Feyenoord in May 2023 before he guided the club to the Dutch title last season.
The former Alkmaar coach rejected advances from Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham to stay with Feyenoord last season.
LIVERPOOL HIERARCHY CONVINCED SLOT FITS AS NEW MANAGER
Liverpool hierarchy, led by chief executive officer Billy Hogan and former sporting director Michael Edwards, are convinced Slot fits the club’s criteria for the manager position.
Hogan earlier said that the club would use a “data-led” approach in its search for a new manager.
Liverpool are currently level on points with leaders Arsenal and are second in the Premier League.
The club is scheduled to take on a derby clash against Merseyside rivals Everton on Wednesday at Goodison Park.
