ARSENAL SPEEDS UP SEARCH FOR NEW STRIKER, WINGER
Arsenal wants to speed up the search to land new players in several positions but the club has prioritized getting a new striker and winger, the source said.
The club plans to hasten these changes, particularly after Arsenal absorbed a 3-2 aggregate loss to Bayern Munich that ended their Champions League semifinal hopes.
Arsenal was hoping to advance to the last four in the tournament for the first time since 2009.
The Premier League side has been longing to bolster their forward line, with Kai Havertz fielded as a central striker the past few weeks, sources said.
ARSENAL EYES TONEY, GYOKERES, OTHER OPTIONS
Arsenal was eying Brentford’s Ivan Toney for a long time but the club has since been open to considering other options, sources within the club noted.
Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is one of the leading options.
The 25-year-old has tallied 36 goals and 16 assists from 44 appearances as he moved from Coventry City to Portugal last summer.
Arsenal is also looking at RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko to strengthen their lineup.
The 20-year-old has a $53-million release clause which becomes active this summer.
Wolves winger Petro Neto has also been listed on Arsenal’s radar.
ARTETA SEEKS MAN CITY MODEL ASIDE FROM NEW STRIKER
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta earlier hinted his desire to follow the Manchester City model of Pep Guardiola of a smaller squad to boost the amount of rotation.
“I would love that – to have 22 or 20 instead of 18. Where we change and one is better than the other,” Arteta said earlier this month.
“The other is better than the other one, the week after. That (would) raise the level and for sure you would win more games,” he added.
Arsenal seeks to speed up its new striker search but needs to heed the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
However, the impending departures of fringe players like Nketiah and Reiss Nelson could enable Arsenal to boost its summer budget.
