ASHWIN CALLS IT QUITS, MAKES IT OFFICIAL AT BRISBANE NEWS CONFERENCE

Ashwin calls it quits and made it official at a Brisbane news conference after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Furthermore, the 38-year-old bowling all-rounder cited his preference to end his stint in international cricket for India.

Moreover, Ashwin hinted that fans can still see him in action in Indian domestic cricket moving forward.

He is scheduled to leave from Brisbane and head back to India on Thursday.

“This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin told reporters.

Furthermore, a “persistent knee problem,” according to a report, played a factor that prompted Ashin to retire from India national team duties.

Ashwin’s last Test was in Adelaide, where India lost by 10 wickets.

He took a single wicket to finish with figures of 1/53 in 18 overs.

“I do feel there’s a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to express that probably showcase that in club-level cricket,” Ashwin said.

“But this will be the last day (for India),” he added.

Furthermore, Ashwin was “thankful for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), fellow veterans Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma for their experiences together.

Moreover, he also paid gratitude to his “OG” teammates at India “the last few years.”

“”Obviously there are a lot of people to thank, but I would be failing in my duties if I didn’t thank the BCCI and the fellow teammates,” Ashwin said.

“Most importantly, Rohit, Virat [Kohli], Ajinkya [Rahane], [Cheteshwar] Pujara, who have taken those splendid catches around the bat to give me the number of wickets I’ve managed to get over the years,” he added.

He would also later paid tribute to the Australian cricket team.

He described them as “very fierce competitors” and whom he “enjoyed my time playing against them.”
