ASHWIN FEELS JADEJA’S EXPERIENCE DESERVING OF INDIA TEST CAPTAINCY
Ashwin feels Jadeja’s experience makes him deserving to be considered of Team India’s Test captaincy.
Furthermore, the 38-year-old former India all-rounder cited Jadeja’s vast experience, particularly with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as something selectors to make a second look.
Moreover, Ashwin said selectors should recognize that Jadeja is capable of serving as captain for “two years” if the latter is named for the position.
“We should not say this, Ravindra Jadeja is the most experienced person in that team. If you’re willing to train a new guy, Jadeja could do captaincy for two years with a vice-captain under him,” Ashwin told the “Ash Ki Baat” YouTubeChannel on Thursday.
“He has also captained Chennai Super Kings, although that did not go well. I’m not saying he should become captain, but definitely be considered,” he added.
GAMBHIR TO HAVE ‘HUGE SAY’ IN NEXT INDIA CAPTAIN, SAYS ASHWIN
Ashwin admitted, however, that coach Gautam Gambhir should still have a “huge say” when deciding who will be the next India Test captain.
Moreover, the former all-rounder acknowledged that Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill are the frontrunners for the Test captaincy with the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Furthermore, he still recognizes Gambhir as the “most experienced” in Team India higher than Bumrah, Jadeja, and Gill.
“Whatever team gets selected will be the team of Gautam Gambhir. The most experienced player apart from Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah is Gambhir only,” Ashwin said.
“He will have huge say in the appointment of captain as he has to groom the side,” he added.

INDIA PRESSED TO NAME CAPTAIN AS FIVE-MATCH ENGLAND TESTS IN JUNE SET
India is pressed to name a new captain as the five-match England Tests approaches.
Furthermore, the South Asian cricket powerhouse is getting ready for its  2025-27 World Test Championship cycle with its England Tests starting on June 20.
Moreover, Gambhir was seen offering puja at the Siddhivinayak Temple on Thursday, fuelling rumors that annointing Gill for the Test captaincy is not a done deal.
Meanwhile, former India Test player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar was surprised that Team India was looking beyond Bumrah as its captain.
“I am shocked that we are looking at option other than Bumrah as Test captain,” Manjrekar wrote on social media.
“Worried about his injuries? Then choose your vice-captain carefully,” he added.
