BCCI TAPS SAIKIA TO TAKE OVER FROM ICC CHAIR SHAH

The BCCI taps Saikia to replace Shah.

It was Shah who assumed the post as International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman on December 1.

Furthermore, Binny – as BCCI president – used his power to appoint Saikia.

Saikia is a former first-class cricketer who hails from Assam.

Moreover, the appointment of Saikia as acting secretary was necessary to fill in a vacancy.

This was specified by the BCCI rules and regulations.

Interestingly, Saikia is the current BCCI joint secretary prior to being appointed by Binny.

It remains to be seen if Saikia will represent the BCCI in its next meetings with Shah and the ICC regarding the Champions Trophy 2025 hosting issue.

BINNY CITES BCCI CONSTITUTION CLAUSE AS BASIS TO NAME SAIKIA AS ACTING SECRETARY

Moreover, Binny cited the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) constitution clause as the basis to appoint Saikia.

Furthermore, the board was not properly represented when Shah attended his first ICC meeting as chair.

That meeting was between the ICC, BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to tackle the Champions Trophy issue recently.

“The president shall in the event of vacancy or indisposition shall delegate the funcitons to another office bearer until the vacancy is fulled up or indisposition ceases,” the constitution clause stated.

“Accordingly, I delegate the functions of secretary to you (Saikia) till the post is filled up y processes laid down as per BCCI rules ands regulations,” it added.

SAIKIA, BCCI STAND ON HYBRID MODEL FOR CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025 HOSTING UNCERTAIN

Furthermore, Saikia has yet to publicly make a stand regarding the hybrid model reportedly agreed upon by the ICC and the PCB.

Moreover, the BCCI also has yet to make a formal statement if it has agreed to the hybrid model arrangement.

The PCB agreed to the hybrid model provided Pakistan won’t travel to India to play cricket matches there.

This means India will also need to stage a hybrid model arrangement to accommodate Pakistan’s request.

“During the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play its matches in Sri Lanka,” a source said.
