Borussia Dortmund 2-0 PSV (3-1 on agg)
Dortmund ended up 1-1 in Eindhoven, as the first leg was a balanced tie. However, this time on German soil, Sancho, on loan from Manchester United, needed only three minutes to narrowly put his side ahead on aggregate with a fine distance finish.
Dortmund had a second goal disallowed when Niclas Fullkrug was deemed offside. But Marco Reus made sure of their progression deep into stoppage time, sealing a 2-0 win on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.
Dortmund, who used to be a finalist in the past, reached the Champions League quarter-finals for only the second time since 2017.
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Inter Milan (3-2 pen)
Diego Simeone did what he always did best—he pulled off a magic performance at home and stunningly beat Inter Milan.
The La Liga side was behind on aggregate from the first leg as Inter led 1-0. The Serie A giants even scored to double their lead within 35 minutes with Federico Dimarco’s tap-in.
However, Antoine Griezmann took advantage of Inter’s defensive howler to shorten the gap before a clinical 87th-minute finish from Memphis Depay near the penalty spot put Los Colchoneros level on aggregate 2-2.
The clash needed 30 minutes of extra time, but the results remained unchanged despite the chances coming and going.
Penalties ensued, and after Hakan Calhanaoglu and Memphis had each converted, three consecutive misses from Alexis Sanchez, Saul Niguez, and Davy Klaassen handed the advantage to Atletico. Rodrigo Riquelme, Francesco Acerbi, and Angel Correa scored, leaving Diego Simeone’s side with a 3-2 lead after four attempts each. Lautaro Martinez needed to convert to keep Inter alive, But, usually so deadly in front of goal this season, he fired high and wide to hand Atletico the win.
