BROOK TAKES OVER AS ENGLAND CAPTAIN FOR AUSTRALIA ODIS
Furthermore, Brook takes over as England captain for their five match ODIs (One-Day Internationals) series against Australia.
Moreover, the 25-year-old batsman will replace Buttler, who has not played since June.
At the time, England lost to India in the T20 World Cup semifinal in Guyana.
The 34-year-old Buttler has since missed that three-match series, which ends on Sunday.
It will be a major upgrade for Brook, who was the captain of England’s Under-19 World Cup team in 2018.
BUTTLER BACKS ‘GREAT OPPORTUNITY’ AHEAD FOR BROOKY AS SKIPPER
Moreover, Buttler backs the “great opportunity” ahead for Brook as England skipper.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity for Brooky to be the captain. He is a pretty laid-back character, but I think he has everything in line,” Buttler said.
“He is a really good thinker about it… I’m sure he’ll do that his own way, and he’ll get a feel for those moments (in games),” he added.
Brook was named to replace Buttler despite the former listing only 15 caps in ODI cricket.
Meanwhile, Buttler’s injury also prompted England to recall Liam Livingstone for the 50-over side after he was initially left out.
BUTTLER WANTS ‘TO GET IT RIGHT’ BEFORE COMING BACK FROM INJURY
Furthermore, Buttler wants to “get it right” in his recovery period before he returns from the injury.
“It’s obviously a shame to miss some cricket and stuff, but I just want to get it right. There’s a lot to look forward to in the future,” Buttler said.
“Injuries force you to stop and take a different perspective, and it’s nice to be around the guys, getting to know some new faces and seeing what they’re all about,” he added.
Incidentally, Buttler confirmed having conversations with incoming England coach Brendon McCullum regarding his condition.
“Having spoken to Baz (McCullum) about it, he stumbled across it with injury preventing him from keeping wicket,” Buttler said.
“But then he really enjoyed being next to the bowler at mid-off,” he added.
