Ancelotti will now coach Brazil

The 65-year-old will take charge of Brazil on May 26 following the conclusion of the LaLiga season.

However, Real Madrid have not yet made his departure from the club official.

Ancelotti will become Brazil’s first foreign coach, replacing Dorival Junior.

Brazil sacked Dorival Junior after a 4-1 thrashing by Argentina in March.

Selecao sits fourth in the South American group, but they are still well placed to qualify for the 2026 finals.

“The greatest national team in the history of football will now be led by the most successful coach in the world,” a statement from the CBF read on Monday.

“Carlo Ancelotti, synonymous wit historical achievements, was announced as the new coach of the Brazil national team by the President of the CBF, Ednaldo Roodrigues on Monday.”

“He will lead Brazil until the 2026 World Cup and will already coach the team in the next two qualifying games against Ecuador and Paraguay next month.”

Storied coaching career in Real Madrid

Ancelotti leaves the Santiago Bernabeu as one of Real Madrid’s most successful managers.

He won 15 trophies across two spells as Manager manager and last season led Los Blancos to a Champions League and LaLiga double.

In two spells in charge, Ancelotti has won three Champions Leagues and two LaLiga titles with the club.

However, his exit from Madrid comes after Sunday’s El Clasico defeat to Barcelona.

Madrid is seven points behind leaders Barcelona with three games remaining.

Unless Barcelona collapse, that result means Real will finish the season without a trophy for the first time in four years.

Real Madrid had set Ancelotti’s current deal to expire in June 2026.

Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso is set to become the new Real Madrid boss after confirming his departure from Bayer Leverkusen.
