CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025 NAMES MATCH OFFICIALS; INDIA REFS SKIP PAKISTAN TRIP
Champions Trophy 2025 named its match officials on Wednesday, with no Indian referees making the list.
Furthermore, Nitin Menon and Javagal Srinath “mutually agreed” to skip travelling to host Pakistan to officiate matches there.
Moreover, Menon – India’s sole representative in the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires – has decided not to go to the host country due to personal reasons.
A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told Press Trust of India that the ICC (International Cricket Council) wanted to put Menon on its officials roster.
However, the Indian official refused.
“The ICC wanted to put him (Menon) on the Champions Trophy roster. But he decided against travelling to Pakistan due to personal reasons,” the BCCI source said.
AUSTRALIAN, SRI LANKAN LEAD CHAMPIONS TROPHY MATCH REFEREES’ LIST
An Australian, Sri Lankan, and Zimbabwean will lead the tournament’s 15-man match referees’ list.
Moreover, Australian legend David Boon, Sri Lankan great Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft from Zimbabwe were among those announced in the ICC list.
Furthermore, the announced match officials will officiate matches in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, as well as in Dubai.
“A distinguished panel of 12 umpires will officiate the eight-team event, with six returning officials from the 2017 edition,” the ICC said in a statement.
The list will also include Richard Kettleborough, who officiated in the previous Champions Trophy final in the United Kingdom.
ICC OFFICIAL ASSURES CHOSEN MATCH OFFICIALS ‘MOST SUITABLE AND DESERVING’ FOR TOURNEY
An ICC official assured that the chosen match officials were the “most suitable and deserving” for the tournament.
Furthermore, ICC senior manager Sean Easey told the eight participating teams that they are “confident” the list will deliver quality matches in terms of officiating.
Moreover, he noted that the ICC made all efforts to offer well-officiated matches to the fans.
“We always try to name the most suitable and deserving officials for any event,” Easey said.
“And we are confident this group will do a fine job across the matches in Pakistan and the UAE,” he added.
RAZA LONE PAKISTANI IN MATCH OFFICIALS’ LIST; NO INDIAN REFS IN DUBAI, TOO
Ahsan Raza was listed as the lone match official from host Pakistan in the list.
Furthermore, Menon and Srinath will also skip officiating matches in Dubai, where India will play all its matches.
This was part of a hybrid arrangement by the ICC, BCCI, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Moreover, Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, and Richard Illingworth were also part of the list.
Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, who also officiated in the 2017 edition of the tournament, were included in the roster.
“Dharmasena will be extending his stint of officiating 132 ODIs at the upcoming tournament, a record for an umpire from Sri Lanka in the One-Day format,” the ICC said.
Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson round out the officials’ pool.
