Veterans Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal will lead Chile’s massive 55-man provisional squad that will play for Copa America 2024 in the US.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ, VIDAL HEADLINE CHILE’S PROVISIONAL SQUAD

Sanchez and Arturo Vidal headline Chile’s 55-man provisional squad that will be handled by Argentinean manager Diego Gareca.

The 35-year-old Inter Milan forward hopes to relive his glory days in what could be his final Copa America stint.

Sanchez scored the winning penalty in leading Chile to the 2015 Copa America title.

Vidal was with Sanchez in Chile’s 2015 and 2016 triumphs, with the midfielder also winning a Serie A and Coppa Italia title.

Gareca would be hard-pressed to trim the 55-man roster to the final 26 on or before June 12.

VARGAS, MEDEL ALSO MAKE CHILE’S COPA AMERICA LINEUP

Other familiar names who made it to Chile’s provisional roster include striker Eduardo Vargas and Gary Medel.

Claudio Bravo (Real Betis), Brayan Cortes (Colo-Colo), Gabriel Alas (Racing). Vicente Reyes )Norwich City), and Lawrence Vigoroux (Burnley) comprise Chile’s goalkeeper line.

Medel (vasco de Gama), Mauricio Isla (Independiente), and Eugenipo Mena (Uniersidad Catolica) form Gareca’s defenders.

Vidal, Marcelo Diaz (Universidad de Chile), and Erick Pulgar (Flamengo) lead Chile’s midfielders, while Sanchez, Vargas, and Ben Brereton Dias Sheffield United) comprise the forward line.

Vidal and Medel, however, were not part of the lineup in some of Chile’s friendlies, reports said.

The La Roja are in Group A along with Peru, Argentina, and Canada.

Chile open its Copa America 2024 campaign against Peru on June 21, followed by Argentina (June 25) and Canada on June 29.

MEXICO HEADLINES JUNE FRIENDLIES BEFORE MAIN COPA TOURNAMENT

The Copa America 2024 won’t officially start until June 20, yet all 16 participating teams will be active in international friendlies next month.

Mexico headlines two of the friendlies scheduled on June 1 when it faces Bolivia at 5:30 am followed by the Costa Rica-Uruguay match at 3:30 pm.

Copa America 2024 hosts USA open its friendlies’ schedule against Colombia as one of three exhibition matches set on June 9.

Brazil clashes with Mexico and Argentina takes on Ecuador are the two other friendlies for that day.

There are also friendlies on June 5 (Mexico vs Uruguay), and June 8 (Peru vs Paraguay). June 10 (France vs Canada), and June 12 (Chile vs Paraguay).

Two more matches cap the series of friendlies on June 17, when Ecuador and Honduras collide, while Panama faces Paraguay.
