Peru has named its squad that will take part in two friendlies ahead of Copa America 2024 but without star winger Andre Carrillo.

PERU NAMES SQUAD FOR FRIENDLIES AHEAD OF COPA AMERICA 2024

Peru has announced the lineup that will play in two international friendlies against Paraguay (June 7) and El Salvador (June 14) ahead of Copa America 2024.

Universitario de Deportes’ Diego Romero made the squad as its lone goalkeeper.

Matias Lazo (Melgar), Renzo Garces (Alianza), and Gu-Rum Choi (ADT) are the defenders.

They were joined by Paolo Reyna (Melgar) and Nelson Cabanillas (Universitario de Deportes).

Jorge Murrugarra (Universitario de Deportes), Catriel Cabellos (Racing Club), and Kenji Cabrera (Melgar) will man the midfield.

Piero Quispe (UNAM), Jairo Concha (Universitario de Deportes), Joao Grimaldo (Sporting Cristal), and Martin Tavara (Sporting) also made the squad.

CARRILLO DOUBTFUL FOR FRIENDLIES BUT STILL POSSIBLE FOR COPA AMERICA 2024

The squad was named without star winger Carrillo, who is coming off a spate of injuries.

The former Sporting and Benfica standout is closing in on 100 caps and fans remain hopeful he will play in Copa America 2024.

The 32-year-old Carrillo might be playing his last Copa America or major international tournament.

Manager Jorge Fossati will name his final lineup on or before June 12.

The La Blanquirroja are out to churn out a deep run in Copa America 2024.

Peru is coming off a poor stint in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

The team will join Argentina, Chile, and Canada in its group.

Kevin Quevedo (Universidad Catolica), Andy Polo (Universitario de Deportes), and Luis Iberico (Riga) will man Peru’s forward line.

Raul Ruidiaz (Seattle Sounders), Jhamir D’Arrigo (Alianza Riga), and Alex Valera (Universitario de Deportes) also made the squad.
