CRICKET GETS THE NOD AS 1 of 2 NEW REGULAR SPORTS IN 2026 ASIAN GAMES
Cricket gets the nod as one of two new regular sports in the 2026 Asiad.
Furthermore, the OCA made the announcement on its official website Tuesday.
Moreover, the Asiad will be held in September to October next year.
“The latest development in the compilation of the sports programme came at the 41st meeting of the AINAGOC Board of Directors at Nagoya City Hall on Monday, April 28,” the OCA’s press note said.
“The venue for cricket will be in Aichi prefecture, but the exact location has not been decided,” it added.
Mixed Martial Arts will be the other new sport that was approved to make its Asiad debut.

“Interest will be high” for cricket’s Asiad return, as the sport will also come back in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Moreover, cricket is no stranger to the Asian Games, with the sport held in the 2010, 2014, and 2022 editions.
Furthermore, Bangladesh took the gold when it became a medal sport in its Asiad debut 15 years ago.
Additionally, Afghanistan took the silver, while Pakistan got the bronze at the time.
Sri Lanka won it in the 2014 edition, followed by another Afghanistan silver and a Bangladesh bronze.

India hopes to defend its 2022 Asiad gold medal after the South Asian country finally took part in the Games.
Furthermore, Twenty20 (T20) stars Yashavi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma shone for India in its gold medal run.
Moreover, Afghanistan received its third-straight silver three years ago.
Bangladesh then settled for the bronze.
Additionally, India also claimed the gold in the women’s team event.
Sri Lanka took the silver, while Bangladesh settled for the bronze.
