Djokovic beats Alcaraz to reach Australian Open semis vs Zverev

Novak Djokovic beats Carlos Alcaraz in an epic matchup on Tuesday night to reach the Australian Open semifinals against Alexander Zverev.

DJOKOVIC BEATS ALCARAZ IN ‘EPIC’ QUARTERFINALS SHOWDOWN DESPITE LEG INJURY

Djokovic beats Alcaraz in their “epic” quarterfinals showdown, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, despite nursing a leg injury.

Furthermore, the Serbian 24-time Grand Slam winner overcame his leg problems after losing the opening set with a more aggressive approach.

Moreover, the former world No.1 turned it around after a medical timeout by tying the match as he steadied his game the rest of the way.

“I just wish that this match today was the final. One of the most epic matches I’ve played on this court. Of any court,” Djokovic said.

“Then I saw Carlos was hesitant a little bit from the back of the court (after the first set), I took my chances and thewn started to feel and move better,” he added.

Moreover, the player also known as “Nole” admitted that the medication he took after his injury timeout turned it around for him.

Furthermore, the Serbian’s decision to change his playing style to a more aggressive approach also paid off.

“I saw he was checking my side of the court more than his side in the second set,” Djokovic said.

“He was looking at how I was moving, playing quite a few drop shots and stretching me, but I tried to protect my position on the court and just go for my shots. It paid off,” he added.

The win propels Djokovic to another tough semifinals matchup against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, a 7-6(1), 7-6(0), 2-6, 6-1 winner over American Tommy Paul.

ALCARAZ RUES ALLOWING DJOKOVIC TO GET BACK INTO THE MATCH AFTER FIRST SET

Furthermore, Alcaraz rued the time he allowed Djokovic to get back into the match after he took the first set.

Moreover, the Spanish world No.3 could not find an answer to the Serbian’s aggession in the second set as he could not get his game back.

“I felt like I was controlling the match and I let him get into the match again,” Alcaraz said.

“When Novak is at this level, it’s really difficult,” he added.

But the Spaniard is leaving his Melbourne with his head high, knowing he pushed Djokovic to the limit.

“Every time that we play against each other, I think a show is guaranteed. So I’m leaving here Australia with the head up,” he added.
