EX-SRI LANKA BATSMAN BANNED FOR 20 YEARS FROM AUSTRALIAN CRICKET
Furthermore, ex-Sri Lanka batsman Samaraweera has been banned for 20 years after an integrity investigation showed he breached the Code of Conduct.
Moreover, the 52-year-old right-handed off-break was accused of having inappropriate behavior with a female cricketer.
Cricket Australia (CA) ruled that Samaraweera “engaged in inappropriate behavior” that led to him breaching second 2.23 of CA’s Code of Conduct.
The Sri Lankan cricketer was employed by Cricket Victoria (CV) when the allegations arose against him.
“The CA Integrity Department investigates complaints brought to it under integrity Codes and Policies which also apply to State & Territory Associations,” the CA said.

Moreover, the CA and CV are committed “to provide a safe environment for all players,” which led to the decision against Samaraweera.
Furthermore, the CA identified 2.23 of the Code as conduct that is contrary to the spirit of cricket.
It also covers instances that could be harmful to the interests of cricket and events that does or could bring the game of cricket into disrepute.
“The welfare of those subjected to mistreatment is paramount,” it said.
The CA urges parties to report inappropriate behaviors through the CA Integrity Unit or through the Core Integrity Home.
SAMARAWEERA FORCED TO ABANDON COACHING ROLE IN AUSTRALIA AFTER VERDICT
Furthermore, Samaweera was forced to abandon his plan to take up a coaching role.
The coaching gig was with the Australia A women’s team after the verdict was handed out.
Moreover, the 52-year-old was supposed to handle a team that will play in a multi-format series.
Australia’s women’s squad was lined up to face India last month.
However, allegations of serious misconduct against him arose at the time.
Samaraweera initially joined CV as a specialist batting coach in 2008.
He would later be named interim coach of the women’s team in November last year.
