FONSECA IS YOUNGEST SINCE ALCARAZ IN 2021 TO CRACK ATP TOP 100 LIST

Fonseca is the youngest since Alcaraz in 2021 to crack the ATP top 100 list after the Brazilian reached a career-high No.99.

Furthermore, the 18-year-old wunderkid rose 552 spots from No.651 to become a top 100 player.

Moreover, Fonseca had an impressive run at the 2025 Australian Open, where he upset No.9 seed Andrey Rublev in the first round.

His run ended only in the second round, but the strides the Brazilian made in the first major of the year made a big impact.

Fonseca also became the youngest Brazilian to crack the top 100 and the second South American to reach that far since Juan Martin del Potro.

The teenager is coming off a title run at the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF in December before winning an ATP Challenger Your title in Canberra.

That made him qualify the main draw at the Australian Open.

‘SKY’S THE LIMIT’ FOR BRAZILIAN WUNDERKID

Moreover, the “sky’s the limit” for Fonseca, who became the youngest Brazilian since Cassio Motta made the top 100 as a 19-year-old in 1979.

Furthermore, the wunderkid hopes to emulate the success of former world No.1 Gustavo Kuerten, who also reached the top 100 before his 20th birthday.

Fonseca is aware of the expectations facing him especially in his native Brazil, but he’s out to embrace it.

“I’m excited to join the Top 100, play the big tournaments, get my place in this environment and keep working to go bigger,” Fonseca said.

“I think for me, in my opinion, the sky’s the limit,” he added.

BRAZILIAN TO CROWD FELLOW WUNDERKID TIEN IN FUTURE MAJORS

Furthermore, the Brazilian is expected to crowd fellow wunderkid Learner Tien in future majors.

Moreover, Tien also had astounding campaign in Melbourne after the Vietnamese-American qualifier stunned No.5 seed Daniil Medvedev in the second round.

Tien would then reach the fourth round in Melbourne.

Incidentally, Fonseca is second behind Tien in te PIF ATP Live Race to Jeddah standings.

“From Brazil, the repercussions are just big. People are getting to know a little bit more of me. That’s super nice,” Fonseca said.

“People are going to say a lot, have more expectations. You need to stay focused on your routine, to work more and more” he added.
