GAMBHIR, GARKAR DEBATE ON IYER, PANT’S PLACE FOR TEAM INDIA IN CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025

Gambhir and Agarkar had a heated debate on Iyer and Pant’s place for Team India in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025

Furthermore, the India coach insisted on keeping Iyer from the squad after his impressive performance in the team’s recent ODIs (One-Day International) against England.

Moreover, Agarkar engaged in a heated debate with Gambhir at a selection meeting regarding Pant’s place as the second-choice wicket-keeper.

The India chief selector wanted Pant get that position, but Gambhir is looking at KL Rahul instead.

Incidentally, the coach wanted Rahul as his team’s first-choice keeper due to his concerns on Pant’s performance.

COACH SAYS THERE’S ‘NO PLACE FOR TWO WICKETKEEPER-BATTERS’ IN TEAM INDIA

The coach said, according to sources as quoted by Press Times of India, that there’s “no place for two wicket-keepers” in his team.

Moreover, Pant was even overtaken by Axar Patel after the latter performed well in the recent ODIs.

Furthermore, Patel also chipped in 47 runs in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

“KL is our No 1 wicketkeeper and this is what I can say at the moment,” Gambhir said.

“Rishabh Pant will get his chance but at the moment it is KL who has done well and we cannot play two wicketkeeper-batters,” he added.

TEAM INDIA SWEEP OVER ENGLAND IN ODIS MAKES THEM READY FOR DUBAI

Team India’s 3-0 sweep over England in their recent ODIs makes Gambhir’s team ready for their upcoming stint in Dubai.

Furthermore, Gambhir found an ally in former selector Devang Gandhi, who lauded the coach for the team’s seamless transition.

Moreover, Gandhi reminded the coach of his team’s consistency in the middle-order selection, as the former only hopes for the best.

“Gambhir must be given due credit for working with a team in transition. He has got India dominating in the ODI format, much like India were doing from 2016-2019,” the former selector said.

“What the selectors and Gambhir need to be careful about is consistency in the middle order,” he added.
