GARCIA TO RETIRE FROM TENNIS FOR GOOD AFTER FRENCH OPEN STINT

Expect Garcia to retire from tennis for good after her campaign at this year’s French Open that starts on Sunday.

Furthermore, the 31-year-old French player was known to be a former world No.4 in women’s tennis in 2018, when she reached the US Open semifinals.

Moreover, that was her best placed finished at a major, as Garcia lost to Ons Jabeur in straight sets.

“Dear tennis, it’s time to say goodbye. After 15 years competing at the highest level, and more than 25 years putting pretty much every second of my life into it, I feel ready to start a new chapter,” Garcia wrote on social media on Thursday.

“My tennis journey hasn’t always been easy. Since my early days, tennis has been much more than just winning or losing. It’s been love or hate,” she added.

ONE LAST HURRAH AT ROLAND GARROS FOR GARCIA

It is but timely that Garcia makes her last hurrah at Roland Garros at her home country.

Moreover, the 5-foot-10 player had her best finish at the French Open in 2017, when she reached the quarterfinals but lost to Karolina Pliskova.

Furthermore, she never got past the round-of-16 at Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

“Still, I’m deeply grateful for this journey – for everything tennis has given me, and for how much it’s helped me become a strong, passionate, hard-working woman,” Garcia said.

“My body and my personal goals need it. Still, this is not over – not just yet,” she added.

Moreover, Garcia is looking forward to play at the French Open for the 14th – and last tine – this year.

” I have a few tournaments left. The first one is at home, at Roland Garros. My 14th consecutive time being part of it. And my last,” the French player said.

“In the coming days, there will be more time to share what’s next for me. But for now, I just want to focus on living these last weeks as a tennis pro to the fullest,” she added.
