GILLESPIE QUITS AS PAKISTAN RED-BALL COACH DUE TO DIFFERENCES WITH PCB

Gillespie quits as Pakistan’s red-ball coach due to his differences with the PCB as a result of the board refusing to renew Nielsen’s contract.

Furthermore, the 49-year-old Australian retired cricketer-turned-coach told the PCB he won’t board a plane for South Africa to coach the Pakistan Test team on Friday.

Moreover, Gillespie was angered when he learned that the PCB refused to renew Nielsen’s contract as the tean’s high-performance red-ball coach.

That, apparently, was the last straw that prompted Gillespie to walk away.

A source close to Gillespie told ESPNCricinfo that the PCB never made an effort to reach Gillespie on Thursday.

JAVED TAKES OVER AFTER GILLESPIE QUITS, READY AS INTERIM COACH

Moreover, Aaqib Javed will replace Gillespie as an interim coach in time for Pakistan’s Test series in South Africa.

Furthermore, Javed is the current interim coach of both Pakistan and South Africa’s white-ball sides.

Interestingly, Gillespie’s original contract with the PCB was supposed to expire in 2026.

The resigned former coach was also frustrated from the PCB.

This came about after the PCB absolved his power to have a say on the selection and pitch preparation involvement with the team.

Gillespie’s decision came weeks after Gary Kirsten had resigned as Pakistan’s white ball coach.

Kirsten quits just before the team left for a series in Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

NIELSEN NOT BASED IN PAKISTAN A FACTOR IN NOT RENEWING HIS CONTRACT, SAYS SOURCES

Furthermore, Nielsen was not based in Pakistan – a factor the PCB may have used in refusing to renew his contract.

Moreover, sources confirmed this theory, while adding that Gillespie backed Nielsen due to the latter’s rapport with the players.

The PCB has yet to make a decision on Nielsen’s replacement.

However, the board was adamant in bringing in Pakistan-based coaches instead of hiring overseas-based coaches.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is scheduled to play its first Test in Centurion on December 26, with the second on January 3 in Cape Town.
