Yamal could be as good as Messi
The winger scored twice in Barca’s 4-1 win in Sunday’s Catalan derby at Montilivi.
Dani Olmo and Pedri also found the net, before Cristhian Stuani scored a late consolation for Girona.
Barcelona remains unbeaten in five games this season.
Meanwhle, Michel had nothing but praise for Yamal, saying that he can reach Messi’s level.
“Lamine is a difference-maker,” MÃchel said in a news conference.
“For me, he is already one of the best players in the world at 17 years of age.
“It is difficult to imagine that after Messi another [like him] would come along, but I hope that Lamine keeps improving because he’s a player than can reach that level.”
Future great
Yamal has established himself as a rising star at just 17 years old.
Last season, he became the youngest scorer in La Liga history and also helped Spain claim the title at the 2024 European Championship.
Incidentally, Yamal was featured in a 2007 photo shoot with Messi when he was just six months old.
Despite the flattering comparison, Yamal knows that “reaching Messi’s level is impossible.”
“I like that they compare me to the greatest player in the history of football, but I want to be myself,” “Reaching Messi’s level is impossible.”
