ICC FACES FINANCIAL PROBLEMS IF PAKISTAN, INDIA WITHDRAW FROM 2025 CHAMPIONS TROPHY
The ICC faces financial problems if Pakistan and India withdraw from the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Furthermore, the world cricket body is bracing for possible financial implications, as the tournament will be hampered if the two countries boycott at the last minute.
Moreover, India suggested staging a “hybrid model” for all its games in Dubai.
The remaining matches, meanwhile, will still be held in Lahore.
However, Pakistan rejected the idea this time, with reports citing additional expenses if the hybrid model is used.
An earlier report said Pakistan may withdraw its hosting of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to India’s stand.
PCB URGES INDIA TO PROVIDE WRITTEN EXPLANATION OF DECISION
Moreover, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) urged India to provide a written explanation of its decision to refuse to send a team to Lahore.
Furthermore, the PCB insisted on staging the 2025 Champions Trophy in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi from February 19 until March 9.
Sources cited by ESPNCricinfo were quoted as saying that the Pakistan government will be more involved in hosting the tournament.
This means the PCB may not have a say even if it agrees on a hybrid model to appease India.
Pakistan agreed to a hybrid model in last year’s Asia Cup tournament.
But the PCB still sent a team to India for the World Cup.
REPORT RECOGNIZES INDIA’S MAJOR CLOUT IN GLOBAL CRICKET MARKET
Furthermore, a report cited Cricket Pakistan as saying that India has a major clout, as shown in the 2023 World Cup.
Moreover, India will host four international events.
These are the 2025 Women’s World Cup, the 2026 T20 World Cup, the 2029 ICC Champions Trophy, and the 2031 Cricket World Cup.
“The importance of these fixtures was underscored by the record-breaking 173 million Indian TV viewers and 225 million digital viewers during the 2023 World Cup,” Cricket Pakistan reported.
However, the ICC also acknowledges that Pakistan’s withdrawal from all of the India-hosted tournaments will affect its viewership figures.
The ICC remains hopeful that tensions between India and Pakistan over political matters will die down.
