Shami also skipped his team’s Test Afghanistan series and will also not play in the remaining final two Test matches against England.
“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon,” the cricketer said. “Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet.”
NO CRICKET SINCE NOVEMBER
Shami has not played for India since November at the ODI World Cup final against Australia. The 5-foot-8 bowler dismissed 24 batters in only seven matches and emerged as that tournament’s highest wicket-taker before his injury.
Shami played through the pain due to landing issues but he still took 24 wickets in India’s World Cup campaign. However, the Uttar Pradesh native remains ruled out at least in the early part of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 for Gujarat Titans.
Shami took 28 wickets with an average of 18.64 in IPL 2023 and had 20 wickets a year before that.
