INDIAN TEAM TO LEAVE BARBADOS AFTER PM MOTTLEY HOPEFUL OF AIRPORT’S OPERATIONS
Members of the Indian team are scheduled to leave Barbados via a charter flight on Tuesday evening.
Furthermore, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley hopes that the airport’s operations to resume in the “next six to 12 hours.”
Members of the T20 World Cup 2024 winning squad have been stranded in Barbados for two days.
Moreover, the threat of Hurricane Beryl, which hit the island on Sunday evening, prevented the Indian squad from leaving since winning the title on Saturday.
“I have literally been in touch with the airport personnel and they’re doing their last checks now,” Mottley said.
“We want to resume normal operations as a matter of urgency,” she told Press Trust of India.
T20I LINEUP CHANGE SET AS FIVE PLAYERS PART OF STRANDED INDIAN TEAM
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said the team’s Twenty20 International (T20I) lineup change is set.
Moreover, five members of the team going to play against Zimbabwe are part of the stranded group in Barbados.
Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, Khaleel Ahmed, and Sanju Samson were supposed to travel to Zimbabwe for the five-match T20I series.
Furthermore, the other members of the squad left India for Zimbabwe early Tuesday morning.
Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana were added to the Zimbabwe-bound squad as replacements for Samson, Dube, and Jaiswal.
Additionally, Sudharsan, Sharma, and Rana will play in the first two matches of the series.
