Martinez signs extension with Barcelona
The Catalan club announced the extension on Thursday in a statement.
Barca stated that the center-back’s new deal had been agreed upon for some time.
However, they had to wait to make it official until the club’s financial fair play issues had sufficiently eased.

“Both parties had reached agreement months earlier, but registration with the Liga de Futbol Profesional (LFP) was pending,” the club said in a statement.
“FC Barcelona expresses its satisfaction at having secured the Basque defender’s services for an additional season.”
Stint in Barca so far
MartÃnez joined Athletic Club on a free transfer ahead of the 2023-24 season, but injuries hampered his first campaign.
He featured in 25 matches, starting 15 of them, under Xavi Hernandez.
This season, the 33-year-old established himself as a regular starter under Hansi Flick before suffering a hamstring injury in the Supercopa final last month.

Overall, Martinez has made 33 appearances for Barca across all competitions this season, scoring three goals.
His extension follows a spree of renewals Barca has secured since January, with the likes of Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Pedri, Gerard Martin, and Pau Cubarsi all signing new deals.
