SINNER TOPPLES DIMITROV AS FOLLOW-UP TO AUSTRALIAN OPEN TITLE
Sinner continued his strong performance in 2024 so far with a 6-3,6-1 win over No.11 seed Grigor Dimitrov for his first Miami Open title.
The Italian world No.3 won another title after his majestic run to the Australian Open in January where he dethroned world No.1 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
Sinner improved to a 22-1 win-loss record this year and finally won in Miami after settling as runnerup to Daniil Medvedev last year.
He was also a losing finalist in 2021.
“This was my third time in the final and I figured this would be the lucky one. I’m really happy I can hold the big trophy,” Sinner said.
COLLINS FINISHES OFF RYBAKINA FOR FIRST TITLE
Collins capped off her last appearance in Miami with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Elena Rybakina for the women’s title.
The 30-year-old St. Petersburg, Florida native got her fitting send-off before her home fans
Collins is suffering from endometriosis, an ailment that affects the uterus that forced her to cut short her career.
“In my home state, to come out here in front of thousands of my best friends pushing me to get over this hurdle, I was getting very emotional,” Collins said.
