Araujo signs with Bournemouth
Araujo, 23, signed a five-year deal with the Premier League side worth €10 million ($10.9m).
The California-born defender joined Barcelona from LA Galaxy in 2023 in a last-minute transfer.
However, he never made an appearance for the Catalan club, spending last season on loan at Las Palmas.
New Barca coach Hansi Flick gave Araujo some playing time in their friendly win over Manchester City in Orlando before he departed the club for good.
A high-potential signing
Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake expressed his optimism on Araujo’s transfer.
He said in a statement: “Julian is someone who we have tracked for a while now and we’re delighted to bring him to AFC Bournemouth.”
“He’s a young player with high potential and we’re pleased to have beaten lots of competition for his signature.
“We believe that we have all the tools here for Julian to build on the quality he already has and we really look forward to welcoming him to Vitality Stadium.”
Araujo began his career in MLS with LA Galaxy, where he appeared in 108 games for the club.
He initially represented the United States at the youth level and even earned one senior cap.
The full-back eventually switched allegiance to Mexico in 2021.
