Klopp will throw a party
Klopp’s Liverpool finished second to Manchester City twice, first in the 2018-19 season and again in 2021-22.
Liverpool won the Premier League title under Klopp’s management in 2019-20.
In February 2023, the Premier League referred Manchester City to an independent commission over 115 alleged breaches of financial rules, dating from 2009 to 2018.
If Manchester City is found guilty of violating 130 Premier League competition rules, it is possible that Liverpool could be awarded two additional titles.
During his first appearance as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, Klopp was asked how he would react if the commission found Manchester City guilty and stripped them of their league titles.
“We had this discussion when I left,” he said. “I haven’t spent a lot of time [at my home] in Mallorca because I’m always flying around the place. If it would happen I told all the people who wanted to just book a flight [to Mallorca]: ‘I will buy the beer.’ Whatever we have to celebrate, we do it. We would have our own parade in my garden. We will see. I didn’t follow it all.”
Happy for Liverpoool
Meanwhile, Klopp has nothing but praise for Liverpool, currently the Premier League leaders under the management of Arne Slot.
The German boss said he has no regrets of leaving Anfield, considering Liverpool’s current form.
“I’m so happy for them that they do so well,” he said.
“There is not a 1% part of me that thinks I should be there. I am more than happy not to be there. I wish them all the best and I watch as many games as I can. They are maybe the best balanced team in the world right now.”
