Havertz wife receive abusive messages
Arsenal were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing on penalties to Manchester United at Emirates Stadium.
The German striker missed a crucial chance to win the game, firing over from close range, and later had a penalty saved by United’s Altay Bayindir during the shootout.
Havertz’s wife, Sophia, reposted two messages on her Instagram story on Monday, including one where someone threatens to “slaughter” her unborn baby.
“For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me. I hope you are so ashamed of yourself,” Sophia Havertz wrote to her half a million followers.
Turning to another abusive message, she added: “I’m not sure what to even say but please guys, be more respectful. We are better than this.”
Arsenal to investigate
Meanwhile, Arsenal has launched an investigation into the social media posts sent to Kai Havertz’s wife.
According to PA, data technology company Signify has been tasked with identifying the individuals behind the abuse.
This could allow the club to report the perpetrators to the police, while the accounts involved will also be flagged to Instagram.
Instagram has reportedly removed the abusive content for violating its policies.
