KLOPP SAYS RESTING PLAYERS IN LIVERPOOL WIN AVOIDED BURNOUT
Klopp said resting key players in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage avoided burnout for his team.
The Liverpool manager rested Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister against Fulham.
Klopp made the call after his team’s second-leg fixture against Atalanta in Italy in a Europa League quarterfinal match on Thursday.
Liverpool won that match, 1-0, in Bergamo.
“I made the changes 100 percent sure that we had to do,” Klopp said.
REST PLAYERS TO PUSH LIVERPOOL IN ‘GOOD SITUATION,’ SAYS KLOPP
Klopp described Liverpool’s latest win as a “good situation” after a 2-2 draw at Manchester United and a 1-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace in their last two matches.
“I liked the performance. I liked the options. It’s a good squad situation,” the manager said.
“We need all of them, we need to fight through games and we have the derby to focus on now,” he added.
Klopp cited the grind of his players in their recent matches as “tough,” saying “You have to get through this.”
“I felt there was a good chance we could make the next step today and the boys did that,” he said.
ALEXANDER-ARNOLD, GRAVENBERCH GOALS POWER LIVERPOOL WIN
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberh, and Diogo Jota scored one goal each to power Liverpool to victory over Fulham.
The lack of directions means Liverpool can now solely focus on the Premier League title race, the manager said.
“We didn’t gain a lot of points in that period, but it was still one or two,” Klopp said.
“We didn’t win games, but nobody expected us to be where we are now.”
“It’s the run-in now, no interruptions anymore, no internationals or Europe – we can all concentrate on the league and that’s all we will do,” he added.
