STOKES TO MISS T20 WORLD CUP AND 2024 IPL SEASON
Stokes wants to fully recover from his recent knee surgery.
This prompted him to rule himself out of the T20 World Cup and the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
“Opting out of the IPL and the World Cup will hopefully be a sacrifice that allows me to be the all-rounder I want to be for the foreseeable future,” Stokes said.
The 32-year-old New Zealand-born cricketer played hurt for England in its 4-1 loss to India in its five-match Test series recently.
STOKES LOOKS TO PLAY IN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Stokes will attempt to play for Durham in the County Championship within the next few months.
He wished England’s white-ball cricket coach Matthew Mott well after Stokes told England management to not consider him for the T20 World Cup.
Stokes played for England in three T20Is outside of the World Cups the past three years.
Meanwhile, Mott may have to rely on Liam Livingstone to play for England in the T20 World Cup in Stokes’ absence.
However, Livingstone suffered an apparent muscle strain while playing for the Punjab Kings on Sunday.
