Mbappe “sorry” for red card
Madrid took the lead in the 34th minute with an Eduardo Camavinga goal.
However, referee gave Mbappe a red card after a VAR check for his tackle on midfielder Antonio Blanco.
Fortunately, Madrid secured a 1-0 victory over Alaves despite Mbappe’s first-half dismissal.
The Los Blancos were without coach Carlo Ancelotti, who received his fifth yellow card of the season during Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Valencia on April 5.
Davide explained that the the French superstar was sorry for the “challenge”.
“Kylian isn’t a violent lad for sure; he’s said sorry, he’s aware of the mistake he made,” said Davide Ancelotti, who is the son of Madrid boss Carlo.
“It’s a clear red-card challenge, and he’s suffered the consequences.”
“All the little fouls they committed on him made him react in that way. It wasn’t the right way, I’m not justifying it, but that’s what happened.”
Mbappe received his first red card since joining Madrid last summer.
While playing for Paris Saint-Germain, he received three red cards — one in Ligue 1 and two in cup competitions.
“Winning gives us confidence”
Meanwhile, Madrid awaits the Spanish football federation’s decision on the length of Mbappe’s ban.
Their LaLiga victory followed a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg.
The win keeps them four points behind leaders Barça, who beat Leganés 1-0 on Saturday.
“What happened [against Alavés] made it a bit more difficult for us, but winning gives us confidence for what we want to happen on Wednesday [in the second leg],” Ancelotti said.
