Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister said he is eager to see his Argentina teammate Lionel Messi play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Winning a World Cup is the best”
Allister was part of the Argentina squad that won the trophy in the 2022 World Cup.
In an interview with AS, the 26-year-old reflected on the 2022 triumph as a transformative moment in his career.
“The World Cup in Qatar gave me a place in this team. I feel comfortable with the style of play that has always been a characteristic of Argentina. That is, always trying to keep the ball as much as possible and connect through passing.
“My role may be a little different, as sometimes I am defensive and other times offensive, but I am proud of what I have achieved. Winning a World Cup is the best.”

Meanwhile, Mac Allister wants to see Messi return with Argentina for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi, 37, first suggested that the 2022 World Cup might be his last with Argentina.
However, the Inter Miami star has now left the door open for a potential appearance in the next World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“I hope he can arrive because he is the player who makes the difference,” Mac Allister said.
“It is always a plus to have him with us. Hopefully. I think so. There is a year and a half left to get to the World Cup, and that is nothing. He seems happy, and although I don’t know what is going to happen with his future, it seems that he is going to continue playing and enjoying [football] at Inter Miami.”
Mac Allister, who has represented Argentina since 2019, praised Messi’s influence with La Albiceleste.
“Leo is everything,” he said.
“For my generation and for those of us who have shared a dressing room with him, he’s everything. It makes me happy to share a dressing room with Messi and to be able to say that I have played with the best of all time.”
